Five Reasons to Have Your HVAC Checked to Prepare for the Heat

It’s no mystery that things are about to heat up as we move through spring and towards the summer months. Hopefully you’re excited for the heat and all of the fun that the summer can bring, but it’s important to be mindful of how prepared you are to protect your comfort level at home as the sun beats down.

Now is the time to have someone come and inspect your HVAC unit to make sure everything’s in order. Not convinced it’s worth your time? Here are five reasons to consider:

  1. Energy and Financial Efficiency

It seems obvious, but the most important reason you want to get your unit checked is to make sure it’s working properly! Beyond ensuring that it’ll turn on and keep you cool, an inspection can highlight any areas where it might be leaking or not working at 100% efficiency. With a little tweak or seal, you can save money and be more energy efficient by making sure your HVAC is working only as hard as it needs to (and isn’t over-compensating for leaks or damage). Saving money and reducing your ecological footprint? Sounds like a good plan!

  1. HVAC Maintenance Gets Technical and Involved

How comfortable does the task of adjusting refrigerant levels sound to you? Sounds fun, right?! How about checking connections, belts, filters, current/voltage, airflow, and general unit health? It’s entirely possible that you’re someone who knows a thing or two about HVAC systems, and that’s awesome, but bringing a specialized technician in can turn a day or week-long project, figuring out how the unit works, into a quick afternoon appointment with no hassle. There are quite literally many different moving parts, and a technician can quickly ensure they are all in working order so you don’t have to worry.

  1. Manage Potential Hazards

Whether it’s mitigating a potential fire hazard or eliminating the possibility of a carbon monoxide leak, there are some serious consequences to the health of you and your family that can come from a poorly maintained HVAC system. Leaks and blockages can create hazards that a technician will need to fix, and it’s important to get any issues fixed before the AC kicks into high gear. You’ll likely only know for sure that there is a hazard after it’s too late, so it’s best to do a bit of preventative maintenance and be on the safe side.

  1. Summer Heat Isn’t Forgiving

Living in high temperatures can contribute to: thirst, impaired endurance, disturbed sleep, headaches, trouble concentrating, dizziness, muscular weakness, and even nausea. Now, if your home has Air Conditioning, hopefully you are able to keep your home at a comfortable temperature. That being said, if your unit breaks down in the middle of a heat wave and takes a few days to fix, you could find yourself in some severe discomfort. You don’t want your unit to abandon you when you need it most, so make sure it’s set up for success during its most stressful season!

  1. Your HVAC Deserves to Live a Long, Healthy Life!

It’s pretty simple, actually — the more care and maintenance put into an HVAC system, the longer it’ll typically last you. Regular cleaning and adjustments can make sure it keeps doing its thing for longer, meaning you won’t have to invest in a brand new unit quite as soon as you might otherwise need to. In that way, you can see your maintenance appointment this spring is an investment in your HVAC’s long, healthy life; a life spent keeping you healthy and comfortable throughout the year.
